fantastic and rare charming old watercolor artist's box made for "little Monet" displaying wonderful picture on top that spells out "Couleurs" circa, 1900.The beautiful wood box expands into three levels telescoping out allowing for all the materials to be at one's fingertips. And look at the fabulous whimsical hinges carved and shaped into exotic animals.The design is quite unique and would have held, paper, paint blocks, paint brushes, pots, etc. This one comes complete with remainder of the paint blocks, six porcelain mixing pots (all in very good condition), some with their original gilt around the rim. There is also little case that has some ink tips inside. There are two working latches, front and back to secure the casket.The box is in beautiful condition with gorgeous warm patina. The quality is superb as evident from the craftsmanship and details of the carving. There is no. on the bottom of the box that is stamped. Perhaps identifying the maker.What fantastic display piece this would make for any art lover, to either use or display. And how much fun it would be to find additional period art supplies to add to this little treasure!Just note, through researching this Artist Box, have seen materials and replacement parts that can be purchased to bring it back to its original life.
