An Antique Georgian Wooden Knitting Sheath with Copper Shield Cartouche with initials... "J B" Circa 1780.Back in the 17th/18th & 19th centuries many men and women could be seen walking to and from work or market carrying their wares, and knitting on the move.This was done by holding the knitting sheath under the arm with another knitting needle held in the hole in the handle.Although this particular Sheath is made out of single piece of wood,(possibly pear?) it has been expertly carved for comfort under the arm.Also this sheath can be used under the left or right arm, but it is shaped to go under the left arm.Lovely 200 year old patina.Total length 12 1/2 inchesLow starting price and no reserve.Postage will be Royal Mail Recorded Signed For in the UK.And Royal Mail International Signed For.
