This is vintage Japanese lidded calligraphy box (suzuribako) made of Japanese sugi (cryptomeria) wood with carved cinnabar lacquer dating to the early 20th century (c.1910).  It features deeply carved designs of dragon and pheonix.  The fitted lid sits down perfectly on the base.  There is a removable interior tray  (see picture 10).  All the corners of both the top and base are dovetailed (see picture 7)  On the bottom there is stamp (see picture & 9) from the original makers which states it to be genuine lacquer.  This lidded cinnabar suzuribako measures 1/2" long by 7" wide by 1/4" high (24 17 cm).  Other than some minor bottom and corner wear this cinnabar suzuiribako remains in excellent condition.You'll love it, guarantee it.........If you purchase this item and are not completely delighted with it, you may return it for no questions asked refund within 14 days  of receipt.Sailerking and the Shogun's Gallery have been in the Japaneseantique business for over 32 years, and highly value our customers.Satisfaction Guarantee: All items are carefully described and photographed.
