Victorian 1850's Antique Carved Mahogany Secretary Desk Bookcase Item E-20458
Hand carved in the 1850's, this grand Victorian period secretary desk has bookcase top. Matched flame grain mahogany has an excellent deep rich finish, there are shrinkage separations from age for character, see photos. Crown molding is restored on this American made antique library furniture.

The front flips open and the back drops down, this odd configuration forms slanted desktop with inlaid leather. Behind are tiny drawers with contrasting maple fronts. There are compartments for pens, inkwells and storage under the writing surface. Keys are handles only, locks do not work. Drawers have hand cut dovetail joints, square cut nails are visible. The separate bookcase section has original wavy glass and shelves that adjust on wooden supports.

Measurements are 49" wide, 22" deep and 7' 7" tall, the writing surface slopes up from 30 1/2" at the front.
