Very Rare Antique 'Irish Free State' Wooden Butter Crate/Box - Advertising for sale
You are bidding on a somewhat rare, near antique storage butter box from the 'Irish Free State'...To be sure, storage and transport containers from this period are not uncommon, but those from very narrow period; that which defines the period of the Irish Free State, (a somewhat nebulous period, but one which broadly encompasses the decades from the 1920's to the 1930's, more specifically, 1921-1937, before it was renamed, Eire). This particular example measures about 33.5cm (13") square at top by 31cm (12") square at the base by 34cm (13.25") high. It weighs little over 3.5 kg and is in pretty good condition. I have bees waxed the exterior, but left the interior largely untouched apart from light sanding. The handles, though old are not original, being added by myself, but do aid transport.Today, one might use it as unique log bucket for hearth fire. Alternatively, if one put plastic liner inside, it would make very interesting bread bin. Personally, would put lid on it and make it general storage box, but its up to you.Good luck!
