UPPER SEPIK GREEN RIVER Pig tusk Body ornament  SIZE: 20cm by 12cm

DESCRIPTION:Material from the Upper Sepik region is quite rare compared to much of the Sepik River material because of its distance from the coast and difficulty in accessing it.  This pectorial ornament was collected in the 50s and is made from native fibre pigs tusks and shell.  The cowrie shells would have been traded number of times up the river system to Green River so they take on trade or currency value.
