NICE OLD ANTIQUE 19TH CENTURY AFRICAN MASSAI SEME LION HUNTER SWORD DAGGER for sale
Being offered is very nice old authentic African seme sword. This sword measures 27 3/4" in total length when measured in its scabbard. This is nice old one and would date back to the 19th century. The long slender blade with spatulate tip is indicative of the age. The handle is wood that has been wrapped in leather and ribbed. It may have had some metal wire in the grooves at one time but that is now long gone. The grip is worn smooth and sports nice patina. Long slender blade with high midrib and spatulate tip. The scabbard is leather wrapped around wooden core. The scabbard is finely stitched on the reverse. The leather is in great shape overall with no losses and the leather has developed lovely patina. A simple brass washer at the very base of the scabbard. The carrying strap has broken off at some point in its life. The leather has shrunk bit with age so the blade is very hard to pull in and out of the scabbard but it will go in and out with bit of effort. The Massai are known as fierce warriors and as rite of initiation young warriors had to hunt and kill lion. They did so with only spear and sword in hand. A fantastic old sword.
