Australian Aborigine Painted Central Desert Shield for sale
Australian Aborigine shield from the central desert. Beanwood and natural ochres. Both sides have incised longitudinal fluting. The handle is carved deeply into the reverse side and the edges adjacent to the handle curl inward, giving this shield additional function so that it can be used as coolamon. Dark red pigment painted on the reverse. Probably dates to the 1960’s. Some loss to the dot paintwork on the front. Length 71 cm, width 24 cm. Please contact for accurate shipping quotes.
