This pipe is delicately painted with natural earth pigments andfixatives. It was collected in early 60s. These pipes are often referred to asMaccassan pipes as this is what the Maccassans or Indonesian traders smokedwhen they introduced tobacco Arnhem Landlong before Captian Cook discovered Australia.Such was the culture of the Aboriginals of Arnhem Land,alien influences were absorbed altered, adapted and given purely Aboriginalmeaning.
