ANTIQUE WOODEN CARVED ORNAMENTAL HORSE. Chinese Tang Dynasty styleThis antique wooden horse is about 5inches long (nose to tail) and about 4½ inches tall. It appears black in most lights but in bright sunlight it has warm auburn tinge and you can see this in some of my photos. The underlying wood has reddish hue.I have owned this horse for about 5years and it originally came from an estate sale with large quantity ofantique oriental china. have attempted to date it based on the overall formand the detail of the saddlery and decoration. The only very similar horse ornament Ifound was carved in ivory and described by dealer as Tang dynasty in style soI would describe this in the same way, although it is of course wood ratherthan ivory.The carving appears to beof reasonably good standard and would suggest that this was quite highly prized by theprevious owner as there is some careful restoration to both of the reins whichinvolved the insertion of small pieces of wood as have shown in my 7thphoto. Looking at the horse from the front, the right hand glass eye has beenreplaced as it does not quite match the other one and does not sit so deeply inthe socket. there is small chip off one of the lower legs as shown in my 3rdphoto.  There is also small area ofdiscolouration on one side of the saddle and small hole in one of the frontlegs as shown in my 6th photo. All these faults are quite small and emphasisedby my close-up photos and are not really noticeable unless you examine the horse. My final photo shows the underside of the horse. POSTAGE
