This is for an old style ship's binnacle. It looks brass but there is bit of wear showing through to silver metal. magnet doesn't stick to it, but it's not truly brass or copper either. The gimball and compass say it's made by C. Plath Hamburg, Germany. This could have been built as late as the 1960's. ...
