Ancient celadon ceramic head from Sukhothai, Thailand. Circa 1700s.The interesting head has big round nose and chignon on the head. It might have been woman.It is covered with celadon or Song style green glaze. The famous thick green glaze has crackled effect underneath. The head was deliberately cut off from statue and buried to ward off bad luck. It was believed that the stone statue took the place of its owner and absorbed all the bad energies.The head was unearthed from the Province of Sukhothai, northern Thailand. bought it many years ago from villagers who helped with the excavation.Height: 5 cm'Most of my collection is one of kind. bought the items because liked it for myself. They were never intended to be resold. Each item has story and when possible hand carried in my luggage from all over the world to bring back to Australia.
