5' Whaling Harpoon - nautical decor for sale


This 5' decorative harpoon would make nice accent piece to your nautical rec room or office. The handle is round 1/4" in diameter burnished cedar pole with two coats of gloss urethane. The shaft is 3/8" diameter steel with cast aluminum tip, the rope is 5/16" pure manila whipped with black nylon cord. Lewis Temple invented this harpoon tip which is named after him (Temple Toggle). skilled blacksmith from New Bedford, MA, Temple former slave, in 1848 created new type of harpoon with moveable head that prevented the whale from slipping loose.
