Antique Scottish Spoon

***Made in 1866 Victorian Edinburgh***
***Well Made & Clearly Hallmarked***
***33.5 Grams Sterling Silver***

Presented for sale here is rare antique Scottish spoon made in 1866 making it 150 years old! Clearly hallmarked, and in the fiddle-back style popular in the day, this spoon just oozes Victorian charm. As you can see from the photographs, it was made in two parts and joined together as you would expect from spoon this age. All the hallmarks that should be present on the spoon are present and correct for the period. The hallmarks, reading from left to right when looking at the back of the spoon's handle translate as follows: "Edinburgh 1876" most likely the year and city where the spoon was sold "A. Mc. I." The maker's mark identifying the silver smith who made the spoon [Bust of Queen Victoria] This pictorial stamp indicates that the tax on the item was paid [Three Towers] This pictorial stamp indicates the city of manufacture. In this case, Edinburgh, Scotland [Thistle Flower] This pictorial mark is the Scottish standard mark indicating that the spoon is made from sterling silver "K" the date mark as required by law indicates the year in which the piece was made. In this case the capital letter "K" within an oval cartouche  indicates the piece was made in 1866. In addition to the required hallmarks, this spoon is also monogrammed on front and back. The monogram on the front of the spoon appears to be "W. N. M." and is most likely the monogram of the first owner of the piece. On the back, the monogram is "From T. C. N." and is most likely the monogram of the individual who gifted the spoon to the original owner. At the time this spoon was made, the monogramming was customary for high quality sterling silver such as this spoon. The spoon is bit under inches in length and weighs respectable 33.5 grams. It is remarkable that this spoon survived the past 150 years intact and undamaged. Scottish silver is always hot commodity with silver from this time period being particularly desirable. Listed here for very reasonable price, this spoon is sure to sell quickly!
